The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Workplace is investigating a deputy-involved capturing in Brandon.

On Sunday afternoon, deputies responded to a home violence incident involving a 7-year-old.

The backstory:

HCSO says the suspect, Mario Camacho, was armed with a knife and was choking the kid at a house on the 100 block of Alpine Drive.

Deputies positioned Camacho in a again bed room after listening to the kid screaming for assist.

Camacho refused to let go of the kid and that is when a deputy shot the suspect. He was taken to a close-by hospital the place he was pronounced useless.

The kid was safely rescued.

What they’re saying:

Chief Deputy Joseph Maurer mentioned that the Camacho was sporting a bike helmet and two ballistic vests with armored plates.

“The one shot he might take was the shot he needed to take to cease that risk from harming that boy, and rescuing him and saving him,” Maurer mentioned throughout a press convention on Sunday. “If our deputies didn’t take that motion, there’s little doubt in my thoughts that that boy will not be right here tonight.”
